Carl van der Zandt specializes in international corporate and commercial legal matters with a special interest in technology, intellectual property and supply chain related issues. Before becoming a New York attorney in 2005, he worked as a Dutch attorney and litigator with Trenite van Doorne (now: Van Doorne) in Amsterdam, specializing in intellectual property rights and employment law. In 2000 he switched to Holland Van Gijzen in Amsterdam and focused on the international transaction and corporate practice. In 2001 he transferred to Donahue & Partners in New York, an affiliated law firm, where he worked on the international restructuring of U.S. and foreign companies in close cooperation with the Ernst & Young international tax department. Carl earned a U.S. LL.M degree in 2004 and was admitted to the New York Bar in the beginning of 2005. After working for Davis Polk & Wardwell, he became partner of the New York law firm Taylor & Mrsich, where he further developed his international commercial practice, mainly working on European – US transactions. Carl started his own firm, Gusy van der Zandt, and became counsel to Hill Smith in the New York office, in the summer of 2008.
As a Dutch and U.S. attorney, Carl has counseled clients on a large variety of transactions, such as international joint ventures, setting up of U.S. subsidiaries of non-US companies; technology and internet related transactions with major U.S. companies; compliance with FCC regulations, licensing, international copyright and trademark matters and litigation, e-commerce, data privacy and employment related matters
